Pardon Me (I Didn't Knit That for You)

...there...really...are...no...words.....

...a tale of two knitters...

Okay, so if you know me very well, you know that I never, ever go anywhere without knitting. My husband has been known to ask, "Is there ever a time or place that you won't knit?" Answer, really. I have been known to knit in traffic jams, at sporting events, in bars, at restaurants, etc.....you get the idea.
Anyway, so I have this friend that owns her own yarn company. She hand dyes yarn and is incredible with color. She is a genius. You know who she is......that's right. Go here if you have any doubts about who I am talking about.
Well, we had several meetings yesterday involving the Sock Summit planning. After these meetings we went over to Twisted to visit with Shannon and Emily. We were to go to knit night after our visit to Twisted. On the way to see Shannon and Emily, my friend (you know who she is) confesses to me that she is without yarn, needles and/or pattern for said knit night. (dude, seriously, she has her own yarn company, just saying.....) Anyway, she says maybe she could just buy something at Twisted to work on at knit night. Okay, that was not going to happen. First, buying back your own yarn? Dude.......
We left Twisted, having had a lovely time with Shannon and Emily, but alas with no yarn or needles for you know who.
We arrived at our fav pub to start the fun that is knit night. (we were early, but it's 5 o'clock somewhere...) I suggested that my friend knit on something of mine. I offered her one of the two projects I had with me; Charlotte's web or Mr Greenjeans Sweater (both, I might add, were being knit in her yarn.) She turned me down, not wanting to knit on a shawl or sweater.
My next thought was to call hotflash, find out where she was and if she could please, please, please bring some yarn (anything) and some needles for the yarnless one. She calmly told me that she had no extra yarn. At that point, my yarn lacking friend grabbed the phone out of my hand and demanded that hotflash get serious, this after all was a crisis. Hotflash said she would be right over and would indeed have yarn and needles. She arrived a few minutes later with some, and here's a surprise, sock yarn (STR) and dpns.
The evening went very well after that. (well, the yarn and the beer and wine helped.........)
Tina, oops ..... my friend had finally gotten some yarn and checked out Wally's knitting......

...Wally finished another toe cover....

...we had tator tots....
....tina started a sock....

Well, that's my story. If you would like to read Tina's version......go here.....but really, I have witnesses.....

...size does not matter...

Are you familiar with Lime and Violet's Daily Chum? If not, you are really missing a great resource for knitting patterns, information and goodies. This was a recent posting on the "chum" and it answers the age old question, "does size matter?" . I love this.

I also love that my camp buddy, Sam, is a contributor to this great blog. Check out her blog! She rocks!

...notorious...

...not only is the new blog up but the first shipment is almost ready to be shipped. Just a few more days, my fiber friends, and you will be so happy. Believe me, each and every shipment that goes out is just better and more beautiful than the last. And this one is no exception by any stretch of the imagination. Our depraved dyer is a genius.....but then you already knew that.....

...a new addition...

...meet Wally. Wally stopped by our table during our Wednesday Knit Night and had some questions about knitting. It seems that Wally's wife passed away this past year and she was some kind of knitter. She would knit "toe covers" for patients at our local hospital who leave with a cast on their leg. She was in the middle of one when she died. Wally found her knitting and thought "I can do that". He taught himself to knit and finished the toe cover she had been working on.

Not only that, he went on to knit several more himself. During this time he found that he really liked knitting! No surprise there.

But Wally's real mission is to carry on the tradition his wife started years ago. It seems that she knitted Christmas stockings for each of their children. When the children married she would knit a stocking for their new spouse. And when babies were born, stockings for the new grandchildren. As you might have guessed she had knit many, many stockings. I believe that Wally said that he has 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, all with stockings made by his wife, their grandmother.

Well, his newest great-granddaughter is to be born this year and according to Wally, "No great-granddaughter of mine is going to be without a Christmas stocking." He has the original pattern that his wife has used for these many years (complete with her notes, handwritten in the margin)and he is determined to knit this new addition her own stocking. I have no doubt that he will be successful at this.
What a blessing this man is to his family. How lucky will this great-granddaughter be to receive this stocking and what a beautiful tribute to Wally's wife.
Needless to say, Wally had become a charter member of our Wednesday Knit Night. We are lucky to have him.

...new year, more fun...

Happy New Year! Hope this finds everyone well on the way to a healthy and prosperous 2009. As you know, we had quite a bit of snow before Christmas. This forced the Goddesses to postpone our Christmas Gathering and Gift Exchange. We were finally able to get together this past week to exchange gifts, knit and as usual, laugh.......alot. Here are the highlights....

...hotflash finally got her shoes back...(not really part of the "gift exchange") You can't believe how many of us have a pair of black Dansko shoes.

...lots of really great gifts...

... a few projects...

... and this says it all...

...we're all really trying to keep our resolutions....
